"An Italian Vacation"
Recent Paintings 2006

"On our trip to Italy, we stayed just 50 yards from this wonderful old castle in Rapallo, along the Mediterranean. The castle now houses an art museum."
"From the ancient gates of Montalcino, the Tuscan countryside seemed to extend forever with its patchwork of vineyards, orchards and farmland."
"This was a challenging scene to paint. I thought I would be ignored while painting on this crowded bridge in Florence ---the way I am in America---but that wasn't the case. My biggest challenge came not from painting the scene, but from stopping my painting to carry on conversations with all the friendly local Italians who seemed fascinated by the American painting their city."
"Offering little refuge from the
powerful Ligurian Sea, these boats were pulled onto a small, manmade
harbor to protect them. They lined the village streets near the
water."
"A cloudy spring day and
the local Italians were buying their flowers for the Easter Holiday."
"The Tuscan light was at full strength in this scene of a small church. The buildings glowed orange and gold as the sun rose over the landscape."
"Riomaggiore, in a Cinque Terre
village, was about the "vertical". These old, twisted
stairways were everywhere and seemed to capture the essence of the
village."
"A Cinque Terre village."
