Works
Biography

"I value the unrehearsed yet follow what seems to be my own fabricated language.  Each work is a discovery taking me to a place within myself from which illusion emerges. As the work progresses, I find myself forever altering and adjusting, negating depiction and repetition and opening to a framework of reality which alludes to the strange yet familiar, the unknown yet recognizable, the visible yet invisible.

My work is a vehicle for making interior life visible, journeying to inner circles while living in the outer. It is from this world of organic form that my language seems to become more familiar, even recognizable. Hopefully, I permit one to be free of the need to associate, to conjure, to know; instead to actually allow the art to have an action - to open to what might be."

- Madeline Denaro

Madeline Denaro currently resides and works in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was born and raised in the Bronx, of Irish Catholic parents. She states that her mother was very visual, and always explored the use of color and design in everyday living. She believes this, combined with her father's strong mathematical and mechanical mind, influenced her to see things in a different way.

Later married and raising two daughters, she moved from New York with her family to Fort Lauderdale where she attended the South Florida Art Institute, receiving her degree in Sculpture and Painting. It was, however, her independent studies in London and Frankfurt that broadened her vision allowing her academics to mature. Added to that, Denaro has been studying the mystic G.I. Gurdjieff since the late '80s. One of the most influential spiritual teachers of the 20th Century, his philosophy strongly influenced the way she works.

"To allow something that I do not control to have an action, to allow oneself to bring this action into a materiality; this is why I make art."

Madeline Denaro has been exhibiting in the US and abroad for over two decades including a solo show at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale with multiple solos exhibits in Germany and New York.  She is currently a founding member of the Third Avenue Art District and Funding Arts Broward, developing a vital art community in Fort Lauderdale.
Denaro has been awarded the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship in 2002, 2011, and 2016; the State of Florida Enhancement Grant in 2006, and the Individual Artist Fellowship in 2012.
